What is it?

An aesthetic surgery aimed at reducing cheek volume and giving the face more refined contours.

When is buccal fat
removal recommended?

Aesthetic Indications

Rounded face - excessively full or chubby cheeks that persist even with normal weight

Indistinct cheekbone and jawline contours: Buccal fat pads may create excess volume in the midface, blurring the contours

Desire to achieve a “sculpted” effect: sharper facial lines that are popular in modern aesthetics

Facial disharmony

Medical Indications

Trauma or facial asymmetry: Buccal fat pads may be removed to correct the consequences of injuries or other deformities

Hypertrophy of buccal fat pads - excessive growth of fat formations, which may cause discomfort or aesthetic issues.

When may removal be contraindicated?

Excessive thinness (risk of overly “hollow” facial appearance)

Age-related skin changes (in older age, this may worsen tissue sagging)

Infectious diseases or inflammation in the oral cavity

Chronic diseases in the stage of decompensation

Blood clotting disorders or increased tendency to scar

How is the procedure performed?

If there are no contraindications to buccal fat pad removal surgery, a preoperative preparation will be carried out. It includes a complete blood count, coagulation tests, cardiac assessment (ECG), and other examinations if necessary.

Consultations will be conducted by a plastic surgeon and an anesthesiologist.

The buccal fat removal procedure itself includes:

01 Anesthesia

The surgery is usually performed under local anesthesia.

In some cases, if combined with other procedures, general anesthesia may be used.

02 Incision

A small incision (1–2 cm) is made on the inside of the cheek, avoiding external scars.

03 Buccal Fat Pad Removal

The surgeon carefully removes part of the fat tissue.

It is important to leave part of the buccal fat pads to avoid a “hollow cheek” effect in the future.

04 Incision Closure

The incisions are closed with absorbable sutures.

How is the recovery after buccal fat removal?

01 First days

Possible swelling, mild pain, discomfort during chewing

Soft or liquid food and maintaining oral hygiene are recommended.

02 Within 1–2 weeks

Swelling gradually decreases

Sutures inside the cheeks dissolve on their own

The final result is visible within 1–3 months, once the tissues have fully healed and swelling has subsided.

Buccal fat removal is popular among individuals who wish to refine their facial shape and achieve a more elegant look. It is relatively simple but requires a professional approach to ensure natural results.
